Make mulch for insect-eating birds

A California towhee collects insects during breeding season last spring.  Photo by J.J. Meyer

Instead of filling your trash cans with fallen leaves, rake them under your bushes and shrubs to create mulch.  Insect-eating birds as towhees and thrashers love to forage in leaf mulch for the worms and insects that thrive as the leaves decompose.

Happy birding!
