Foil squirrels with safflower

A squirrel munches on seed after knocking it out of a feeder.  Photo by J.J. Meyer
Squirrels, starlings and grackles can be nuisance, crowding out the feeder and scaring away small songbirds.

There are many devices on the market to keep these pests off your birdfeeder.  But there's another option: mix safflower into your seed blend.  They're just not fond of that seed.

Happy birding!
