It's time to put out nest boxes; birds are house shopping

It might still be winter, but some birds are already preparing for spring.
This week Bob Franz of the Southern California Bluebird Club noticed three of his nesting boxes had already been claimed; a pair of bluebirds was sitting on top or on a branch nearby.
“Around this time of year birds look for potential nest sites,” Franz said.  They go house shopping.
The male shows his mate several nest sites, but the female is the one who makes the choice.  She then places a claim straw, a piece of grass or a small twig, in the box.”

Happy birding!
