Keep cats indoors

California Towhee Nest

One of the best ways we can help nesting birds is to keep our cats indoors. It may be unpleasant for cat owners to keep a cat indoors once it's been used to roaming, but it's not impossible. Cats destroy thousands of nests every year. It's a huge problem across the country.
Songbird fledglings hop around on the ground for a few days learning to fly. At this time they are extremely vulnerable to predators, including pets left outdoors. If you have an active nest in your area, please consider keeping dogs inside too.

  1. I agree 100% to keeping cats inside. Yes, for the sake of the birds which is very important, but also for the safety and health of cats. Too many cats lose their lives to cars and coyotes in South Orange County which could have been prevented. If you let your cat out for a little play time be sure and monitor them. Life is short. Don't make it shorter for baby birds and our amazing cats. They say cats have nine lives but I would rather not bank on that.
