Hummingbirds struggle to find food after Santa Ana winds

Hummingbirds seek nourishment from feeders after recent wind storms.  Photo by J.J. Meyer
The tiniest residents of the San Gabriel Valley took the brunt of the windstorms that whipped through Southern California last week.  Hummingbirds lost much of their food supply when the winds battered plants and trees.  Santa Ana winds that blow hot and dry offshore are known to reach hurricane strength.  Orange County was not hit as hard as parts of Los Angeles.  Still, it's a good idea to clean and fill your hummingbird feeders.  It's also nesting season for Anna's and Allen's hummingbirds.
