A painting of a lesser scaup by John Nelson Harris of
Groveland, Fla., was chosen as the winner of the 2014 California Duck Stamp
Contest.
The Lesser Scaup prefers freshwater and is one of the most
abundant and widespread of the diving ducks in North America.
The painting will become the official design for the 2014-2015 stamp. Since 1971, the California Duck Stamp Program’s annual
contest has attracted top wildlife artists from around the country.
In the past, hunters were required to purchase and affix the
stamp to their hunting licenses. Though
that’s no longer required, the CDFW still produces them as collector stamps, which can be
requested on its website at www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/collectorstamps.
All proceeds generated from stamp sales go directly to
waterfowl conservation projects throughout California.
Happy Birding!
