Riverbench Winery hires falconers
Riverbench Winery in Santa Maria Valley decided this year that instead of investing in new bird netting in the vineyard, the money was better spent bringing in nature's own solution: falcons. These well-trained and majestic birds can be seen swooping throughout Riverbench, scaring away the songbirds who feast on the ripening grapes.
"This is our first year using falcons in the vineyard, but already we know that this will be the most cost effective way to protect our grapes," says Vineyard Manager Jim Stollberg.
It seems the presence of a falcon in the vineyard is enough to run off thousands of birds.
Interesting. Tweet this to your friends.
Happy birding.
